The Makeup Brush Horror Story

The Makeup Brush Horror Story

That Will Change How You Do Your Face Forever

Let me tell you about the day I saw something while working on set.. that still haunts me til this very day.

I was working in this big, beautiful home.

Dirty Brushes Picture

The kind with:

✔️ Marble floors

✔️ Perfectly staged furniture

✔️ A vanity room

And everything looked like it was straight out of a Pinterest mood board.

I step into this gorgeous vanity, and at first glance I’m thinking,

“Oh wow… she has EVERYTHING.”

Foundations, powders, primers, palettes.. and was waiting to see the brushes 😅

And then… I saw it.

A massive brush holder.

Stuffed and I mean stuffed with makeup brushes that were so dirty and fuzzy, they needed to be trashed, not washed, TRASHED!

I was horrified. 😫

Frozen. 🥶

Confused. 😟

Emotionally unsafe. 🤨

So of course I ask the owner, as nicely as possible, “Wow, you have so many brushes! Are these yours?”

(Side note: her makeup looked cakey which is a 🚩 for a makeup artist with a trained eye.)

She smiles and goes,

“Yeah, and girl I just did my makeup.”

…With THOSE brushes? (there goes my intrusive thoughts)

Then she says, “Yeah, I know I need to wash them.” (an understatement)

So I ask,

“Well, when was the last time you cleaned them?”

She says — with her whole chest —

“Maybe last month?”

LAST. MONTH.

At that point, I knowww my eyes were doing all the talking. 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

She pulls me to the side and whispers,

“So… how often should I wash them?”

I had to switch out of girl-to-girl truth mode and quickly step into MUA (aka makeup artist, not muahhh 😝) mode:

“Babe… you need to be washing your brushes every time you use them.”

She looked stunned.

I looked stunned.

We were both standing there in mutual disbelief.

But the truth is… she wasn’t alone.

Most Women Don’t Wash Their Brushes.. And It Shows 🙂‍↔️

After that day, I realized something:

A LOT of women either don’t wash their brushes at all -OR- they wash them like… once a month.

And I get it.

Life is busy.

Kids, work, routines, exhaustion.. We’re human.

But here’s the part nobody talks about:

Your skin is your crown. Your glory.

You’re doing your skincare routine, wearing your serums, cleansing, moisturizing…

and then you’re putting DIRTY brushes on your clean face? Let's not mention the oils, dead skin cells, dirt, dust, and anything else in the air that's left on the reused makeup brushes that now lands on your skin.

No ma’am. 😕

No thank you. 🙂‍↔️

Absolutely unacceptable. 🙂‍↕️

It’s like taking a full shower and then drying off with a towel that’s been sitting in the hamper for a full month.

Would you ever do that?

Exactly.

Don't worry, Storm is here to help you. 🥳

Clean Brushes = Luxury

Clean brushes on your skin every time?

That is luxury.

Like the handbag.

The car.

And the shoes that you bought and considered it luxury..

BUT..THIS RIGHT HERE?

Clean tools touching clean skin?

That’s the kind of luxury nobody can buy for you.

It’s self-respect in beauty form.

Even if you:

💄 don’t have a big brush collection

💄 don’t have top-tier products

💄 don’t have a 20-step routine

You can use what you have and clean it, then reuse it.

But if you can afford it?

Get a second set of brushes. (My favs which are affordable are linked here) ☺️

Rotate them.

Make it easy on yourself.

Your skin will thank you.

And Let’s Talk BREAKOUTS…

Breakouts aren’t always about products, sometimes it’s the tools.

Old makeup, oil, dust, bacteria…

It all collects on bristles.

Why give your skin problems she didn’t ask for?

Why This Matters for You

This moment, that beautiful vanity and those traumatizing brushes, is exactly why I wanted to write this blog post.

Because someone needs to say it:

If you love your skin, you cannot be using dirty brushes.

Take care of your face, and she’ll take care of you.

This little story unlocked a whole series.

Stay Tuned… Because There’s More Coming

As your makeup bff… your tools can make the biggest difference in your makeup routine!
