Using Chemical Exfoliants in Warmer Months

Using Chemical Exfoliants in the Sun:

What You Must Know Before Warmer Months

Let's talk about something important

Title Picture of chemical exfoliants

I love a good exfoliation moment.

Lately, I’ve been using the Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads.

They’re powerful.

They smooth texture.

They brighten.

They refine.

But here’s the part people forget:

Chemical exfoliants increase sun sensitivity.

And if you’re heading into warmer months?

You cannot ignore this.

Why This Matters

When you exfoliate chemically:

• You remove dead skin cells

• You increase cell turnover

• You expose fresh skin

Fresh skin is more vulnerable to UV damage.

That means:

• Faster hyperpigmentation

• Sun sensitivity

• Potential irritation

• Uneven tone

If you’re not serious about SPF?

Pause the peel (aka chemical exfoliant).

The Rule: SPF Is Not Optional

SPF becomes:

• First step

• Last step

• Reapplied step

Layer it generously.

No skipping.

No “I’ll be inside mostly.”

No “It’s cloudy.”

UV penetrates through windows.

If You’re Using:

✔ Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads

✔ Dermalogica Microdaily Exfoliant

✔ Any AHA/BHA product

You must:

• Limit direct sun exposure

• Apply SPF daily

• Reapply if outdoors

• Avoid peak sun hours

Otherwise, you undo your progress.

How This Ties Into Makeup

When your skin barrier is healthy:

• Foundation sits smoother

• Texture looks refined

• Glow is natural

• Less product is needed

Healthy skin makes makeup easier.

Which is why I created my Hydrated by Design Skincare Course.

Because makeup begins with skin.
